Heart check with cardisiography

Dear participants,

even young and fit athletes can be affected by sudden cardiovascular failure – triggered by undetected heart disease, cardiac arrhythmias, or infections.

Particularly during intense physical exertion such as a half marathon, the heart is required to perform at its highest level: heart rate, body temperature, and stress hormone levels increase significantly, fluid is lost, and the cardiovascular system is pushed to its limits.

Cardisiography (CSG) is a fast, precise, and non-invasive diagnostic method capable of detecting pathological patterns that may indicate heart disease. You have the opportunity to undergo this examination free of charge and discuss your results directly with a cardiologist afterwards. This provides additional reassurance about your health before pushing yourself to your limits.

What the heart check can do – and why it makes sense before a race

Cardisiography is a simple and comfortable procedure for patients: you sit relaxed on an examination couch, five electrodes are attached to your skin, and you continue breathing normally. The measurement takes only four minutes, is completely painless, and involves no risk.

In the background, a computer system records more than 3.2 million data points and uses artificial intelligence to analyse every heartbeat based on approximately 290 parameters. The result is a three-dimensional image of the heart’s electrical activity. This AI-supported technology provides a comprehensive assessment of heart health within minutes, with an accuracy of more than 90 percent.

“The three-dimensional views of the heart’s electrical activity create a magnifying effect: in many cases, we can detect abnormalities years earlier,” explains PD Dr. Steen. “Patients with abnormal findings can quickly be referred for further diagnostic testing and receive targeted treatment.”

For participants, this means either reassuring certainty shortly before race day or a timely indication that a closer look is needed and that personal health should take precedence over a personal best.

Putting it into perspective: The limitations of resting and exercise ECGs

In people without obvious signs of heart disease, conventional diagnostic methods have their limitations.

“When it comes to the early detection of coronary artery disease (CAD), the most common cause of heart attacks, a resting ECG identifies only about 25 percent of asymptomatic patients. An exercise ECG achieves a detection rate of just 50 to 60 percent in cases of stable CAD. As a physician, you might almost do just as well by rolling the dice,” says the cardiologist.

A data-rich, three-dimensional view of the heart’s electrical activity can significantly improve diagnostic accuracy. Cardisiography complements traditional diagnostic methods with a high-resolution analysis of heart function and provides valuable indications of potential abnormalities within just a few minutes.

The number of examination slots is limited. Be sure not to miss registration opening on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. A small number of appointments will also be available on-site for last-minute participants.
